It allows direct visualisation of the cavity of womb using a thin tube with small camera inside . It allows surgeon to look for any pathology arising from the womb lining such as polyps so that lesion can be removed or biopsy taken accurately . It also allows to check if the cavity is shaped regular or is distrorted due to fibroids etc.
The common reasons for hysterosocpy asessment are-
irregular vaginal bleeding, post menopausal bleeding, missing coil ,ultrasound suggestive of possible polyp or fibroid or ahead of endometrial ablation.
This is a commonly performed procedure and most hysteroscopies are safe.The risks include infection, bleeding, making a hole in the uterus.
